So. After slacking off for the past few months or so, I decided to do some more promotional art for my comic, which I'm going to work on in the next few weeks, when my final exam takes place, and school's nothing but a distant memory for me.
Anyway, I think I've got some explaining to do here.
This is Geargirl, one of the main protagonists of the upcoming comic I'm working on.
Some basic stats on her character (updated from the sketch in the Scraps section)
Real name: ???
Country of Origin: Korea
Team: Acolytes (Sub-Commander, Team Navigator and Scientist)
Notable Powers/Abilities: Genius-level intellect, empathy with machines. Equipped with cybernetically-enhanced gauntlets and boots for enhanced strength and mobility, as well as an automated arm panel with allows for easy communication between team-mates and a 'subspace teleportation grid', which allows her to mix-and-match various tools for use as equipment or as weapons in combat situations. Commonly seen with a shoulder-mounted rivet blaster, and a large red industrial wrench.
To say that Geargirl is talented would be a severe understatement. Gifted with brains, beauty and a no-nonsense attitude to whatever task lies before her, there is nothing that the Acolyte team's 'resident genius' couldn't handle.
Very passionate about doing things 'in the name of SCIENCE!', Geargirl is always happy to spring her latest inventions for her team to use (and gets that warm, fuzzy feeling whenever she sees it in action on the field.) Not-so-secretly, Geargirl longs to see the day where the long-standing gap between man and machine would be finally bridged across, and works towards acheiving that goal by fostering the creation of true, sentient, robotic life. Until that day comes, Geargirl can only hope and dream.
Geargirl has a work-a-holic attitude about her, and can always be seen (and I mean that quite loosely, since she's always behind closed doors) tinkering about in her lab, surrounded by many of her creations. If she's not doing that, she's navigating her friends when they're out on missions. And when she's not doing that, she runs the Geartech Corporation, where she is the company's CEO and lead Robotics Engineer.
(She's quite a busy girl, isn't she?)
Many Acolytes (such as Crystal) are concerned that this may put her out of touch with human beings over time, and there have been a few instances where that has come to pass. The truth of the matter is, however, that Geargirl cares about her team and her friends very much, so much so, that she'll go the extra mile for them with what she has to offer. This can often lead to her burning herself out at times, both physically and emotionally.
The commander, while highly appreciative of Geargirl's sacrifice and dedication towards the mission at hand, just wishes that she'd take a break once in a while.
Geargirl is the Sub-Commander of the Acolytes, and is the Acolyte of Metal. (SURPRISE!)
Amid the flashier, more colourful costumes of her fellow Acolytes, Geargirl's choice of apparel is more 'down to earth' and simple.
Well....if you exclude the whole robotic arms and legs deal.
Geargirl's costume was designed with both simplicity and convenience in mind. The band on her head, for example, doubles as a comlink to communicate with team-mates. Lined around her waist is a belt lined with several pouches- very handy for carrying around minutes gadgets and items.
The piece de resistance of her costume, however, would be the robotic gauntlets and boots that she equips on missions. Despite being prototypes, these serve to enhance her strength and mobility greatly, and also allows her access to several computerised panels installed on them. Through this access, Geargirl can swap items stored in sub-space, and thus always be prepared for whatever lies before her.
She can also be seen wielding a giant red wrench, which not only serves as a great tool for tightening loose nuts and bolts on some of her bigger inventions, but also comes in handy for when she has a few skulls to crack, as well. Rumour has it that she has an entire toolbox full of large tools similar to that wrench. Only time will tell if we will actually see those in action.
Geargirl can be described as a person who's constantly 'on-the-go'. There probably isn't a moment where you'd find her idling about the place. Some of her fellow Acolytes may find this work-a-holic nature to be a bit off-putting, but, once you get to know who she's really like, you'd tend to find a very enthusiatic, energetic person behind that shell.
Being the only other girl on the team, Crystal tries to get Geargirl out more', feeling that the reason she's cooped up inside that lab is that she's not giving herself the opportunity to see 'all that there is in the world to see.' The two do share a close friendship, however, despite these different lifestyles.
Commander Blaze can also be said to be a good friend and ally of hers. If anything gets out of hand, or there's a problem too big for him to solve, you can bet your bottom dollar he'd go to Geargirl first on the matter. He trusts her a lot to make a lot of key decisions that he himself wouldn't be able to solve, which is why he named her as second-in-command of the team.
On the flip side, while she does tolerate the New Era Outlaw's flippant attitude, she finds herself often annoyed by him and his zany antics. She often wishes that one of these days, she could invent a lock strong enough to keep him out of her laboratory. Despite that, she does regard him as a key player of the team, and as a friend.
" A quick hand can make mistakes every once in a while. A quick mind gets everything done."
" The line between man and machine is one more bridge that we must eventually cross."
" ARGH! New Era Outlaw....GET OUT OF MY LABORATORY!!!"
" Mmmm. Coffee is my friend."
