Nicktoons - SELECT YOUR HEROES! (Complete Version) by NewEraOutlaw Nicktoons - SELECT YOUR HEROES! (Complete Version) by NewEraOutlaw
...or villains.

EDIT: It just occured to me that the top of the TV Screen should say, "Select Your Characters!" because you'll be picking three characters, not just one. Oh, well.

PLEASE DOWNLOAD FOR BEST VIEW!

After many painstaking days, I've finally finished the Character Select Screen...well, more or less, since some characters have yet to be voted for.
The inspiration for this came when I came across a Photoshop Tutorial on how to render a plasma screen TV. Gave it a whirl, and I figured, "Hey, this would be awesome if I could put this to use." Bam.

Since there are a -lot- of Nicktoons, I wanted to reflect that in the title screen, hence the hands with the remotes, deciding and vying for which characters they'd like to see (I'm sure those of you out there who can't decide what to watch or squabbled with your friends over the remote can relate.)

The screens on the sides are holographic projectors that show a 3-D image of the character a player has selected, hence why they're extending beyond the borders of the screens like that. Both players can choose 3 characters on their teams, colors (or costumes) for each and what Assists each of them will use when not active in battle. Can't decide on who to choose in battle? Choose 'Random All???' or 'Random One?' and let the computer pick for you!

As I've mentioned before, too, I've tried to assemble the characters in such a way that you can find them easily. This usually entails putting characters from common shows together (Hey, I can't find Kitty! Where is she- oh, there she is, right under Dudley) or even alignments (One row is made up -almost- entirely of villains, for example.)

Well, I hope you all like it. Take, care, folks!

EDIT (04/08/14) : Well, here it is, folks. The complete version with all of the characters featured. Enjoy!

Well I've never done a critique before, but here it goes...

The character select is very well done. The characters are neatly grouped in their series for easy finding, and related series are close by. I also like some of the subtler choices, such as putting Otto and The Gromble near the Rugrats cast because they are all from Klasky-Csupo, or how TUFF Puppy characters are with the Danny Phantom ones because they are both made by Butch Hartman. Heck, am I the only one who noticed Ren & Stimpy and Doug are near each other and they are both some of the first Nicktoons? Another subtle touch is that the top row consists of unlockable and DLC characters.

The concept is very original and clever. The whole 'TV screen and two people with remotes' concept is a neat nod to back when people used to watch these shows on Nickelodeon when they were younger. I'm not sure if it was on purpose, but their hands look a little fuzzy. I remember you saying something about a plasma TV effect you had, so maybe it was used to make it look like the whole thing is being viewed on a TV screen, and not just the character select one. I also think it's neat how you made the player colours Orange and Green (instead of the usual Red and Blue) as a reference to Nickelodeon's Logo and Slime respectively. Also, the the logos of various series being on the screen in the background is a nice touch.

The only issue I have with it is that the column with Rango and the random squares creates a semi-awkward space above it. Maybe you could move them all up one square, which makes the space lesser above and below, and neatly centres the random squares?

All in all, a very well done piece, and I hope that more people try to come up with clever character selects like this one.

First off, I'd just like to say that I'm glad to see you aren't dead. Seriously, it's been a while. Second, I know this isn't a real game, but if it were, I would probably totally buy it even though I'm not a big fan of these kinds of fighting games. And while I'm personally not a big Nickelodeon fan anymore (for obvious reasons, I can say that this is by far one of my favorite crossover gaming concepts I've seen, and you have even inspired me to make some of my own. I do like the interactions you've given the characters with each other, though personally my only complaint is that maybe you could have established a bit more on they're gameplay, such as they're movesets and supers. As for this piece of art right here, it shows that, well, to put it simply, you're pretty dang good. I especially like the little remote controls, that was a nice touch. Personally, this whole project of yours gets a 10/10. (And BTW, Dora is probably the best character you've added to this game)

Awesome update. Although just a minor nitpick that was probably addressed, why is Rango in the PS3 version of this picture when he's a 360 exclusive? Did you forget to take him out?

Not being mean, just wondering. :)

Ah. Makes sense especially since I see you recently added Mikey to the screen and I couldn't find him whatsoever. I wish this was real and you could have all 59 fighters instead of 57 but it's still big and I got Finn and Jake as exclusives. :)
